Our Story
Everyone is happier outside, children especially, and that is when the best memories are made.
Myself with our two oldest daughters having a fun snow day and testing out an early pull sled prototype.
Our origins
I began in the early 2020s after the birth of our first daughter. Building gifts for my daughters started out as a means of expressing my love for them, but also I have hopes that they will fondly look back on the gifts one day and cherish the memories that each gift holds.
The sleds we made grew to be our favorites because of the memories they made in return: hauling bundled-up toddlers smiling (or napping) through the snow, the giggles on the toboggan rides downhill, or the cries of “faster! faster!” from races around the yard.
In addition to loving the memories made with the sleds, I also began to love the craft of sled-making itself. Everything from milling the rough lumber, to steam-bending the toboggan slates, to the grain-pop as the finish was applied. As the desire to craft grew so did the idea of building a business along with the sleds. After much discussion and support from my wife, we finally launched Sachs Woodworks in 2024.
Our Vision
The one thing that has amazed us since talking to a wider audience is the sheer number of people who have shared toboggan stories from 5, 10, 30, 40, even 60 years ago!
We want that to continue and we will do our part to help create new memories!
To create these new winter memories, we are continually striving to improve our sleds. Through small design tweaks, seeking out higher grade materials, and constantly researching and improving our build process, our mission is to craft functional sleds of heirloom quality.
Now with a love for the craft itself, we continue to build toboggans and pull sleds (and who knows what next!) of the highest quality so that any family can create their own cherished memories.
Thank you and happy sledding!
